What is Policy-Based Access Control (PBAC)?

Policy-based access control (PBAC) is a security framework that manages access to resources based on defined policies rather than static roles or attributes alone. In PBAC, access decisions are governed by a set of rules or policies that specify the conditions under which access is granted or denied. These policies can incorporate various factors, such as the user’s identity, role, attributes, the nature of the requested resource, and the context of the access request, such as time or location. PBAC allows for highly customizable and adaptable access control by enabling organizations to create detailed policies that reflect their specific security requirements and business needs. This approach ensures that access permissions are dynamically evaluated according to the established policies, providing a more precise and context-aware method of securing resources.
